Sixteen CJH students given
Sojourner Truth Award (Back)
Sixteen students
from the C. J. Hooker Middle School in Goshen
were awarded the Sojourner Truth Award,
sponsored by Orange County Community College.
The award recognizes the achievements of
deserving students in grades 6-12 and encourages
the option of higher education for students from
groups that are traditionally under-represented
in the college population.
Award recipients were recognized in one of the
following areas: language arts, mathematics,
science, performing and media arts, athletics,
citizenship and perseverance/effort.
The Sojourner Truth
Award winners are eighth grade students Nawshin
Ahmed, Allegra Anderson, Guadalupe Canete, Victor
Canete, Eddie Castillo, Alejandra Chavez, Kelly
Comeau, Jennifer Diaz, Ethan Fogg, Jonathan
Frederick, Ashley Gordon, Itzamar Hernandez, Marissa
Hernandez, Keitxa Reyes, Ana Romero, Cynthia
Rodriquez.
An awards ceremony will be held March 7 at Orange
County Community College.
The Sojourner Truth Award is named after the former
slave who embodied strength, courage and commitment
and who was dedicated to human and civil rights.
This is Orange County Community College’s 19th
annual recognition program.
