Students celebrate diversity
with
door decorating contest (Back)
As a part of their
Black History Month/Cultural Diversity Celebration,
students at the C. J. Hooker Middle School
participated in a door decorating contest. Students
worked together to decorate their homeroom doors
with the theme of tolerance and diversity.
The following classrooms were winners in the door
decorating contest and were treated to an ice cream
social:
- Homeroom
students of Social Studies Teacher Mrs. Bertone,
who decorated their door with their different
dreams, such as finding a cure for cancer and
ending pollution;
- Homeroom
students of Math Teacher Mr. Guarneiri, who
decorated their door with a large painting of
Martin Luther King Jr., painted by Kyle Iazzetti,
Elizabeth Iozzino and Nicole Clark;
- Homeroom
students of English Language Arts Teacher Mr.
Dornfest, who decorated their door with haikus
and poetry about diversity;
- Homeroom
students of Special Education Teacher Miss
Demers, who decorated their door with different
historical figures such as George Washington
Carver, Dr. Daniel Hale Williams and Lewis
Howard Latimer;
- Homeroom
students of English Language Learners Teacher
Mrs. Gonzalez, who decorated their door with the
different flags that are representative of their
heritage, such as Peru, Guatemala and the
Dominican Republic.
