(Back)

As a part of their Black History Month/Cultural Diversity Celebration, students at the C. J. Hooker Middle School participated in a door decorating contest. Students worked together to decorate their homeroom doors with the theme of tolerance and diversity.

The following classrooms were winners in the door decorating contest and were treated to an ice cream social:

  • Homeroom students of Social Studies Teacher Mrs. Bertone, who decorated their door with their different dreams, such as finding a cure for cancer and ending pollution;

  • Homeroom students of Math Teacher Mr. Guarneiri, who decorated their door with a large painting of Martin Luther King Jr., painted by Kyle Iazzetti, Elizabeth Iozzino and Nicole Clark;

  • Homeroom students of English Language Arts Teacher Mr. Dornfest, who decorated their door with haikus and poetry about diversity;

  • Homeroom students of Special Education Teacher Miss Demers, who decorated their door with different historical figures such as George Washington Carver, Dr. Daniel Hale Williams and Lewis Howard Latimer;

  • Homeroom students of English Language Learners Teacher Mrs. Gonzalez, who decorated their door with the different flags that are representative of their heritage, such as Peru, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.
