March 30, 2012 - The Goshen Youth Jazz Band, conducted by Ellen Dickinson, has been invited to perform at the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C. on April 5.
This year's National Cherry Blossom Festival has special meaning - it is the centennial celebration of when our nation's Capitol received the cherry blossom trees as a gift. In 1912, a gift of 3,000 cherry blossom trees was bestowed on Washington, DC by Tokyo, Japan.
The Jazz Band submitted a demo tape and application in order to take part in the festival, and were invited to attend. They will perform from 2-2:45 p.m. at the Canon Performance Stage at Sylvan Theater, on the grounds of the Washington Monument.
