Ask the Superintendent - September 12, 2007
The first week of school has come and gone. All
the anticipation, excitement, and yes, even a little
anxiety has passed and students and teachers alike
have settled in nicely in this second week of the
school year.
Although Goshen is certainly not the largest
District in the county, we still have 3,300 students
and more than 500 adults “on the move” at least
twice a day. No small task to accomplish. That being
said, it would be fair to say this was one of the
smoothest Opening Days in recent memory.
The morning of September 5th, found me in one of my
favorite places; on the lawn in front of the
Scotchtown Avenue School for the start of the new
school year. Each year I not only enjoy watching the
kids arrive at school, I also smile at the actions
of their parents, who on this morning were assembled
at the school’s main entrance taking pictures as
their children arrived for the first time. I feel
the same sense of pride yearly as I observe my
former students excitedly watching their children
come to the school they had attended years before.
This year I also had the opportunity to meet many
parents, new to our community, whose children were
attending our schools for the first time. After a
summer of hard work and much preparation, it is
always good to have our efforts rewarded as our
schools fill with students.
