Ask the Superintendent - Nov. 22, 2006
Of all the national holidays we celebrate,
Thanksgiving is my personal favorite. Although the
concept our early American ancestors introduced --
being thankful for a bountiful harvest -- has
changed as our society has evolved, for me the
origin and simplicity of that celebration still has
meaning. As a result, each year at this time I pause
often to reflect on the things for which I am most
thankful:
- The country in
which we are fortunate to live;
- The sacrifices
made by millions of Americans to keep our
society free (I firmly believe freedom isn’t
free);
- To serve as a
professional educator for 42 years helping
people, especially “kids”;
- To return to
Goshen, a community I love, as the
Superintendent of Schools;
- To “work” in a
wonderful school district, with an outstanding
staff who interact with our students daily;
- To have a
supportive and enlightened Board of Education.
As we approach
Thanksgiving 2006, I wish you and your loved ones a
very Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at the Goshen
Central School District.
