Board of Education adopts
proposed Building Project plan
(Back)
On October 1, the
members of the Board of Education of the Goshen
Central School District unanimously agreed to adopt
the district’s proposed Building project.
The Building Project, which is projected at
$69,949,000, calls for the expansion and renovation
of facilities in all four school buildings in order
to accommodate a growing student population.
“After a great deal of thought and review, multiple
presentations, architectural refinements and
revisions and careful consideration of the financial
impact to the community, the members of the Board of
Education have agreed that the district must address
growth at this time,” said Superintendent Roy Reese.
The proposal in a nutshell:
Key components to the
Building Project

$15,100,000
- Creation of an
approximate 34,000 square foot one-story

- General
classrooms
- Cafeteria
- Gymnasium
- 15 new general
classrooms with additional space for music, art
and computers
- Space for
pupil services and an expanded/renovated library
Goshen
Intermediate School: $1,002,000

work including mechanical upgrades, such as
heating and lighting

addition includes a 19,000 square foot
second floor addition to the wing built in
1999 for classrooms
- Additional
playgrounds, parking and a student drop-off area
adjacent to the new cafeteria
Please note that
due to the historical architecture of the C. J.
Hooker Middle School, all additions and renovations
will not impact the front of the building.
Goshen High School: $32,746,000
- Creation of an
approximately 85,000 square foot addition that
includes:
- 43,000
square foot two-story classroom addition in
rear of building
- 23 general
education classrooms

state-of-the-art science rooms

new main entrance and extension adjacent to the
bus drop-off area that includes:

Band/orchestra/chorus, technology/computers
and Family & Consumer Science rooms
- Site

“As a district, it
is our responsibility to provide students with
appropriate classroom space and core facilities, not
only so that they meet the state’s educational
requirements, but for the opportunity to challenge
themselves above and beyond,” said Reese. “It would
be a shame if our physical facility limitations
hampered that endeavor.”
The vote for the Building Project will be held on
December 4, 2007. More detailed information will be
continually shared with the community. A detailed
newsletter will be mailed to residents in
mid-November.
